Effective Tips to Make Deodorant Last All Day

Body odor is an annoying problem—for you and, if it’s really bad, everyone around you. While some people may require clinical attention, it is more likely that you are just not optimizing the power of your antiperspirant deodorant stick. You may think that the only way to keep your deodorant from wearing off before noon is to be extra vigilant with reapplication, but there are other ways to make sure your deodorant lasts all day:

1. Apply an antiperspirant deodorant stick
If you want your roll-on fragrance to work to last all day long, you need to make sure that it is actually an antiperspirant, rather than just a deodorant. An antiperspirant contains ingredients such as aluminum chloride hexahydrate, which helps block pores and prevent sweat from escaping into the air and creating an unpleasant odor. A deodorant, on the other hand, masks body odor with pleasant aromas, but it doesn’t stop body odor at the source.

2. Apply deodorant to clean dry skin
Applying a roll-on deodorant right after showering won’t work as well because your skin is still damp—and bacteria loves moisture. Wait about five minutes for your armpits to dry entirely before applying antiperspirant with a roller or sprayer to maximize effectiveness.

3. Don’t apply roll-on on clothes
One of the most common mistakes people make when applying roll-on perfume is applying it onto the shirt. If you want to apply deodorant effectively, apply a small amount to your underarms or pulse points and rub it in with your fingers or a cotton ball. Then, wait for the product to dry before putting on clothes. This process ensures that your skin, and not your clothes, absorbs the product, making the deodorant last for a long time.

4. Shave your underarms
Shaving your underarms is a great way to make your deodorant last all day. The hair in your armpits naturally absorbs moisture, which can cause you to sweat more. Therefore, shaving your underarms can help prevent excessive sweating and odors.

5.Wear breathable fabrics
Roll-on deodorants work best when they’re applied to clean, dry skin. One of the best ways to achieve this is by wearing breathable fabrics such as cotton. Cotton absorbs sweat and dries quickly, so your underarms stay dry even after strenuous exercise or in hot weather conditions.

6. Apply powder after using a roll-on
Roll-on deodorant can cause your skin to get oily, causing acne breakouts, or it can cause the skin to become overly dry, leading to flaking and itching. Applying baby powder after using a roll-on deodorant will help keep the skin at a healthy equilibrium—dry but moisturized.

7. Apply it at night
If you’re worried about what kind of sweat stains might show up on your clothing throughout the day when you apply deodorant in the morning, try applying it at night instead, so it has time to soak into your skin before you’re exposed to heat, humidity, and exertion during the day.
